The track has the Chicago rapper reflecting on his past street life, reaching success and being able to provide for the people and things he cares for.
“You lookin’ crazy, know the trenches raised me/I’m Durkio, but I’m Chicago’s JAY-Z,” Durk raps.
“The Voice” arrives just one week after Lil Durk’s online exchange with 6ix9ine, in which Durk claimed 6ix9ine’s camp attempted to pay him $3 million to continue trolling the artist for publicity purposes.
But Durk likely doesn’t need that publicity, especially after being featured on Drake‘s “Laugh Now Cry Later,” which recently debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, aiming for the top spot. The visual alone has racked up over 75 million views on YouTube, and counting.
Not to mention, Lil Durk has played a vital role in Chicago’s impact on the music industry in the last decade, with mixtapes and albums such as Life Ain’t No Joke, Remember My Name, Love Songs for the Streets, and Just Cause Y’all Waited, which he followed up in May with Just Cause Y’all Waited 2.
